Manipulating the Monolayer: Dynamic Covalent Nanoparticle Building Blocks
Monolayer-stabilized nanoparticles are a canonical category of nanomaterial that exhibit potentially useful properties that are determined not only by chemical makeup, but also by nanoparticle size, shape and with the surroundings.
Dynamic covalent nanoparticles are emerging as an attractive category of reaction-enabled solution-processable nanoscale building block. I will introduce the dynamic covalent nanoparticle concept, discuss implications of nanometre-scale confinement on molecular length-scale processes, and demonstrate how such fundamental understanding helps us to predictably tune nanoparticle properties and to direct selective assembly of discrete structures or extended materials from nanoparticle building blocks.
