Dirk Menche was born in Hofheim (Taunus) in May 1972. He studied chemistry and biochemistry at the Universities of Würzburg and Caen (France). In Würzburg he joined the group of Prof. G. Bringmann and received his Ph. D. there in 2002. After postdoctoral stays at the University of Cologne with Prof. A. Berkessel (2002) and the University of Cambridge with Prof. I. Paterson (Cambridge, U.K., 2002-2004), he started his independent research at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig in 2005 and did his habilitation with Prof. M. Kalesse. In 2008, he became associate professor at the University of Heidelberg. Since 2011 he holds a chair of Organic Chemistry at the University of Bonn.
