Universität Kopenhagen - High-Entropy Oxides: Exploring New Avenues for Advanced Energy Materials

The urgency for sustainable practices is evident and mandates the evolution of advanced technologies, heavily reliant on the discovery and refinement of novel materials.

Recently, high-entropy oxides (HEOs), a novel class of compounds, have shown potential to revolutionize material science. Unlike traditional materials, HEOs are complex solid solutions with multiple elements in the same lattice site. This new material concept offers numerous degrees of freedom, and hence opportunities for property fine-tuning, and emerging functionalities. The largely unexplored field of HEOs holds significant potential for pioneering advancements in sustainable energy technologies. However, key questions about their synthesis, ion mixing limitations, controllability, formation, and performance remain.
