Marianne studied Chemistry and Mathematics at the Universities of Heidelberg, Germany, and Pavia, Italy. She graduated with a thesis on mechanistic aspects of CH activation with Iridium(I) under the supervision of Peter Hofmann⁴. She moved to the Technical University of Berlin for her PhD on selective oxidation of alkanes by vanadium oxides ⁵in the group of Helmut Schwarz⁶. She then discovered the fascinating world of supramolecular chemistry in Bonn while working with Christoph Schalley. Since 2005, she is head of the mass spectrometry facility⁷ of the Chemical Institutes in Bonn. Her current research combines chemical synthesis and modern mass spectrometry for a particular powerful means to investigate reaction mechanisms. Marianne enjoys music, dancing, sailing and family time with her two children.
