Quality Management
As part of the university evaluation, the university has been using a new quality assurance procedure (“Bonn Model”) since 2014.
The Chemistry department conducts module and course evaluations for this purpose, which are organized by the study program management.
In cooperation with the Center for Evaluation and Methods (ZEM), the Chemistry department has been evaluating courses on the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Chemistry since around 2007. Since 2013, the study program management (SGM) has been responsible for the organization.
As part of the QuiL program and the new EvaLS evaluation regulations of 6 May 2014, the evaluation system was expanded into a quality management system with the aim of creating an institutionalized control loop to improve teaching and study conditions. This control loop consists of collecting relevant data (student and lecturer surveys, examination results, cohort developments, ...), deriving improvement measures both within individual courses or modules and with regard to the organization of studies, implementing measures by those responsible for teaching and evaluating the effectiveness of these measures.
As part of the implementation of the EvaLS evaluation regulations of 6 May 2014, the previous “Quality Management” committee of the Chemistry department was renamed the “Evaluation Project Group” at the departmental committee meeting on 15 April 2015.
Quality management is organized in the Chemistry department in the following way:
a) The SGM organizes the student survey on the courses, which is based on online surveys. The evaluation of the questionnaires is carried out by the course management. In some cases, relevant “hard” data such as exam results and cohort developments are also compiled and made available to the members of the evaluation project group together with the survey results.
b) The members of the evaluation project group (EPG) assess the available evaluation data and identify opportunities for improvement in courses, modules or in the organization of the degree program. Specific improvement measures are agreed with the respective persons responsible.
c) Those responsible implement the measures. After the next evaluation, the actual implementation and effectiveness of the planned measures are assessed by those responsible and the EPG.
The evaluation officer (chairperson of the EPG) is obliged to report regularly on the work of the EPG to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Students who wish to have a particular module evaluated should contact the Chemistry Student Council as early as possible.
The composition of the Evaluation Project Group (EPG) is defined in Section 7 (2) of the Evaluation and Accreditation Regulations for Studies and Teaching (EvAO) dated 17.08.2023. In addition to the Evaluation Officer, it consists of at least one representative from each of the following groups
- University lecturers
- Academic staff members
- students
- Persons responsible for the study program management
The student representatives make up at least 30% of the members of the EPG. There should be a deputy for each member of the EPG.
The chairperson of the EPG is the evaluation officer.
