Synthesis and reactivity of complexes with double bonds
Dr. Joey Feld (Universität Bonn) Synthesis and reactivity of main-group complexes with heavy heteroatomic double bonds Multiple bonds are common in organic compounds featuring elements such as boron, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen. Heavier p-block elements form weaker multiple bonds, resulting in significantly different reactivity to those of lighter analogues. We present the use of phosphaketenes to form P=E multiple bonds.

Prof. Dr. Sjoerd Harder (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) Alkaline-Earths for Small Molecule Activation The alkaline-earth (Ae) metals receive rapidly growing attention as abundant and benign metals for catalysis. Although it is questionable whether they will ever replace the more precious d-block metals, there is a growing body of evidence for transition metal-like behaviour. This is especially true for the heavier low-valent Ae metal com-plexes (Ae = Ca, Sr, Ba). Recent contributions to low-valent Ae metal chemistry and activation of small molecules like H2, N2 and CO2 will be presented and the potential, but controversial, contribution of d-orbitals will be discussed.
